Her father was Samuel Kempton, born March 4, 1680/81 in Salem, Mass. He died April 17, 1766. His parents were Ephraim Kempton and Mary Reeves. Samuel married Marsey (Mercy) Dunham and fathered 11 children besides Lois. From the Bartlett Society On 16 July 1751 Lois Holmes was appointed administratrix of the estate of John Holmes of Plymouth, Mariner. On 22 Oct 1753 Lois Holmes had her dower set off [and she received part of the house on a lot adjoining Benjamin Churchill's land]. On 22 March 1754 John Holmes and Mercy Holmes, minors, chose Lois Holmes, widow of Plymouth, to be their guardian. On the same date Lois Holmes was appointed guardian for Lois Holmes, Ruth Holmes, Margaret Holmes and Nehemiah Holmes, minors. There is no Plymouth Co. PR for Lois Holmes. From Genealogies of Mayflower Families, G-Pa, Knowles Family of Eastham, Mass., Page 480 "In 1768 Nathaniel and Lois Knowles of Liverpool, N.S., released her interest in lands in Plymouth devised by her grandfather, Elisha Holmes of Plymouth, to the children of his son John." She was "orphaned daughter of John and Lois (Kempton) Holmes, formerly of Plymouth, Mass." References
