Advisory on parentage of Linah Mims

It has often been suggested that Linah was a child of Shadrack Mims and Elizabeth Woodson. He was not. Parson William Douglass' register shows Lynah (mis-transcribed as Lynch in the published version) Mims born 14 Nov 1772 to John Mims and Sarah Horn. Shadrack Mim's will names his sons, and they do not include Linah.

For an extensive and totally documented account of Linah and his wife and many of their descendants, see Terry Reigel's The Linah Mims - Rebeccah Davis Family website. It includes discussion of what is known of his family history, and commonly perpetrated errors about the family.
