The Rev L J Burks of San Angelo died Friday, Oct 23, 1998, in a local nursing home.
He was born in Cameron, Texas, on Dec 25, 1905, to the parentage of Jim Burks and Lillie Dozer Burks.
He received his education in the public schools of Milam County and moved to San Angelo in 1939.
He became a member of Antioch First Missionary Baptist Church, formerly Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served until his passing.
He worked as a janitor for GTE and retired in 1954. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct 29 at Starks Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct 30 at Antioch First Missionary Baptist Church, 301 W 23rd St. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Those left behind to mourn his passing are three sons, Robert L Burks and James C Burks, both of San Angelo and William T Burks of San Francisco; five daughters, Earnestine M Griffen of Oakland, Calif, Cleo P Lewis of Seattle, and Minnie Graham, Winnie Reed, and Linda Campbell, all of San Angelo; five sisters, Lucille Staten Flaggs of Rosebud, Cleo Lister of Oklahoma City, Rose Jones of Dallas, Deborah Davis of Kansas City, Kan., and Charlesetta Lollis of San Diego; 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
