"Mrs. Lillian Dence, daughter of the late John W. Dance of this village, died of heart failure at Theresa, last saturday morning. She was about 38 years old. On Wednesday night her mother and herself were partially asphyxiated by coal gas. Her mother recovered but she sank gradually until death ensued sunday morning [sic]. Besides her mother, one brother, John D Dence of Chase's Lake survives. The funeral was held yesterday at Theresa and interment will be made to-day in Lowville Rural Cemetery." [Lewis County Democrat March 19, 1902]
