Des Moines Register, The (IA) - August 5, 2004 Deceased Name: LEWIS B. JETER Polk City Lewis B. Jeter, 91, formerly of Afton, passed away August 3, 2004 at C.L.C. care center in Polk City, IA. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 7 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton. Internment will be in St. Edwards Cemetery. Open Visitation will be 12 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorial are to be made in his name. Lewis B. Jeter, son of Nina Mae (Barnes) and James LeRoy Jeter, was born on May 25, 1913 in Thayer, IA. On January 31, 1931 Lewis married Gertrude Bernice Wollensack in Afton. He lived and was a rural letter carrier in Afton, retiring in 1974 before moving to Casa Grande, AZ until 2001, then moving to Polk City. Lewis was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association and Rural Letter Carriers Association. Lewis is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Alsin of Osage Beach, MO, and Anna Navin of Polk City, IA; one son, Gene (Gayle) Jeter of Council Bluffs, IA; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1994; a daughter, Monica in 1973; one infant son in 1940; and four brothers and two sisters. Copyright (c) The Des Moines Register.
