Lewis "Bobo" Gant was born in 1757, in Tryon, Polk, North Carolina, United States, his father, Zebulon Gauntt, was 37 and his mother, Esther Woolman, was 27. He married Mary Armstrong on 10 January 1783, in Lincoln, North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 24 July 1837, in Bedford, Bedford, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 80.
