Lewis Duncan joined the 18th Ky Infantry on 10/Nov/1861 and mustered out on 15/Jan/1863. Grant Countians served in several of the companies in the Eighteenth Ky Infantry, USA which was mustered into Federal service in Feb 1862. It was headquartered at Falmouth and at Lexington, later moving south. With the Army of the Cumberland, it was engaged in the Atlanta Campaign and was in North Carolina at the war's end. The 18th was one of the victorious regiments that participated tn the Grand Review at Washington, D.C. in April, 1865. In 1904 he recieved $3.00 to repair a culvert at the Crittenden Baptist Church. In 1906 he was hired as Marshall in Crittenden and was paid $6.00 per month. He was also the town weed cutter at a $1.00 per day. His salary was raised to $15.00 per month in 1907.
