Veteran of US Civil War. A private with Company B, 8th Pennsylvania Infantry - enlisted 23 April 1861for three months. Then re-enlisted with Company B, 11th Pennsylvania Infantry on 13 September 1861 for 13 months. He was wounded at the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia on 28 August, 1862. Discharged on 16 October 1862. He then re-enlisted with the 22nd Veteran's Reserve Corps on 24 December 1863 and was discharged 4 August 1865. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers on 16 April 1875 (from Nebraska).
