Levi Berridge was born on 25th February 1875 at Benefield in Northamptonshire. He was the youngest child of Mary Berridge, formerly Palmer, and her husband John Berridge, a higgler and carpenter. When Levi was still quite small the family moved to the neighbouring parish of Glapthorn, where they appear in the 1881 and 1891 censuses. By 1891 Levi was working as an agricultural labourer.
In 1896, Levi's mother died.
By 1901 Levi had left Northamptonshire and moved to the London area. The 1901 census finds him living in Tottenham with his sister Edna and her family, and working as a general labourer.
Back in Glapthorn, Levi's father died in 1903.
On 2nd April 1904, aged 25, Levi married Ellen Mary Ann Field, who had worked as a dress machinist before their marriage. They married at Stoke Newington, and went on to have five children together between 1905 and 1915, all born in the inner northern suburbs of London. Their second child died aged four in 1911, but the other four children all lived to adulthood.
The 1911 census finds the family living in two rooms at 41 Alexander Road in Islington. Levi was working as a carman for a lead works at this time.
The family later moved out to Hendon in Middlesex. They were living there at 149 Farm Road at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Levi was working as a gardener by this time. Their adult daughter Florence was also living with them.
Levi died in the Hendon area in 1955, aged 80. Ellen survived him by nearly eight years.
