Bolivar Herald Free-Press March 9, 1972, Page 21 Lester E. Pope Lester E. Pope, 80, a native of Polk, and a prominent, longtime attorney of Seattle, Washington, died at his home in Seattle on February 26 (1972). He attended schools in Polk county and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1916. He practiced law in Bolivar from 1916 to 1918 and at that time enlisted in the U. S. Navy during World War I. After his discharge, he practiced law in the state of Washington in both state and federal courts. In 1922 he started work for the Veterans Administration as a Legal Adviser, Regional Adviser and at the time of his retirement he was the Head Legal Adviser and Chief Attorney. He was a member of the Seattle Post #1, American Legion; Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity; Green Lake Lodge No. 149 A. F. and A. M.; Seattle-King County Bar Association: Washington State Bar Association and Christ Episcopal Church. Surviving are his wife, Josephine B. Pope; one son and two sisters. Bolivar area survivors include a cousin Willard Fox and Ruth Pierce of Fair play; Mrs. Inez Rush, Polk and Mrs. Roy (Tressie Gallivan) Stewart of Bolivar. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, South Bend, Washington. Burial was in the Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo, Washington. References
