Aunt Lesley was born on a ship on the way to America. She was the sixth child born to Julia. As far as i know she was the only child born to Franc Toth. The last port of call was Havana, Cuba. Aunt Lesley was left at the hospital on Ellis Island until cleared. Ship :SS Lafayette. She legally changed first name to Lesley as a young woman. She loved the famous ice skater, Sonja Henie. She loved to ride horses and riding in taxi cabs. Aunt Lesley married the love of her life, Jerald Norman Bates in a civil marriage in Darrien, Conn. This was his second marriage. In spite of never having their marriage blessed by the Roman Catholic Church, both she and Jerry were regular church goers. In their later years, they served their church as a cantor, Jerry, and as a lector, Lesley. They had one day hoped to have their marriage blessed by the church. One of her priests urged her to go to communion since they were working on an annulment. Uncle Jerry had a series of strokes. He was hospitalized in .............. There was a crisis in all our lives at the time, especially Aunt Lesley. Ronny, Uncle Jerry's son from his first marriage to Eleanor, felt there was no benefit to keeping his father on life support system. Mari and John were very supportive of keeping him alive, even if it was on life support system. I stayed at Aunt Lesley's for a few days to be with her and help her. I had to go back home. Uncle Jerry was still alive and seeminly to be getting stronger. Aunt Lesley told me she had a burning urge a few days later to go to Uncle Jerry's side. She did not even park the car legally. She just left the car in the parking lot of the hospital where she had stopped. She hurried insdie to Uncle Jerry. She moved very close to him and told him it was alright to go, to die, to leave. Uncle Jerry died within minutes. Aunt Lesley wanted to move down South. After about a year, she sold her home in Queens and moved to Fredricksburg, Virginia, near Mari and her family. Aunt Lesley was given much love, care and help. She was treated like a beloved member of the family. When Mari's kids were around, they visited her and helped her. She very happily lived in a lovey ground floor apartment with her two dogs: BB and Bonnie. She thrived there for about two years. The doggie now live with Mari and her family. Aunt Lesley was buried by the Mullan & Thompson funeral Home in Fredricksburg, Va. A funeral mass was held at the local church, Our Lady of .....[chapman1.FTW] last port of call was Havana, Cuba. Aunt Lesley never had children. This made her very sad. Aunt Lesley put on weight in the 1960's. She never took it off. Aunt Lesley had a stomach operation and her incision never properly healed.
