    Leonard Smith, son of John and Jane (Brooke) Smith, was one o the early settlers of Frederick County, Md. He laid out the village of Berlin in 1787, now the flourishing town of Brunswick on the Potomac river. This tract of land was originally known as "Merry Peep-o-Day." During the Revolution, Leonard Smith was on the committees of Safety and Observation for Frederick County, Md. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Neale, daughter of Dr. Charles Neale and great-granddaughter of Captain James Neale of "Wollaston Manor," granted in 1642. ...
