1915, 12 June - Leonard volunteered for service in the 37th Reinforcement. His physical description as follows: Height: 5' 11"; Weight: 142lb; Complexion: Dark; Eyes: Dark Brown; Hair: Dark Brown; Distinguishing marks: Bullet wound right forearm above elbow and scar right shin. Accident in boyhood.

16 June 1915-08 October 1915 - Served in New Zealand.

09 October 1915-20 January 1917 - Served in Egypt.

21 January 1917-3 April 1917 - Served in New Zealand.

03 April 1917 - Leonard was discharged on account of wounds received in action. On discharge his intended address was H.M.Prison, Mt Eden, Auckland???

He appeared to be called back up on 14 January 1918. Finally discharged 04 December 1918.

Medals received: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.

His Conduct Sheet: Place: Grey Towers; 24 September 1916, Absent from C.O. Parade; 26 August 1916. Insolent to a superior; Awol from 9 October 1920. Fined 12 days pay and confined to Barracks for 4 days. Place: Palmerston North; 24 January 1917 - 31 January 1917, Awol from hospital. Convicted and forfeit 7 days pay.

Charge Sheet: When under orders for active service deserting His Majesty's Services in that he left Trentham Camp on 01 June 1918 when under orders for embarkation for active service, absented himself without ? from "B" Company until apprehended by military police at Auckland on 22 June 1918. He was court martialed for his desertion July 1918. Given 90 days detention. This occurred at the same time that he married Amelia.

1974 - Was living at 98 Maybury St, Ponit, England when he died. He has left a will.
