Leonard1 Harriman (probably MatthewA, LeonardB, MatthewC), the New England immigrant, was born probably at Uldale, Cumberland, England in 1621 or 1622, based on a deposition made 28 November 1676 in which he gave his age as about 54 years; he was evidently of legal age in 1642-1643 when he owned property in Rowley, Massachusetts. He died at Rowley between 12 May and 5 June 1691, the dates his will was drawn, and his estate inventoried. … Leonard immigrated to New England probably with his brother John. He settled in Rowley, Massachusetts, founded primarily by Yorkshire families, perhaps as early as 1639-1640. He is said to have been a minor and perhaps a servant. Many Rowley men were clothiers and weavers and, since Leonard was a weaver, it is possible that he learned his trade while living as an apprentice with the family of another weaver.
