Leonard was born March 2, 1884 in Moorefield, Independence county, Arkansas. Occupation was farmer and Church of Christ minister. Leonard married Cauza Lee in May 1906 in Corinth, Alcorn county, Mississippi. They had 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. Cauza died in 1926 of Stomach Cancer and is buried in Misner cemetery in Cherry Valley, Cross county, Arkansas.

Leonard married a second time to Grace Cooper in November of 1926. There were no children born of this second union.

Leonard and Cauza were friends and neighbors with Grace and her husband, Mr Cooper. Leonard was helping to dig the grave that Grace's husband was to be buried in when he was called to return home. Cauza had passed away. This was in May 1926. Leonard and Grace married in November 1926. There was somewhat of a scandle since both of there spouses passed away within 3 days of each other and then the married less than 6 months later.

Leonard was the second son of Elijah Alexander Cleveland and Martha "Mattie" Ann Snuggs Cleveland. Leonard was named after his uncle, his fathers brother, who was killed during the civil war.

Leonard died March 28, 1950 of Lung and Throat Cancer. He is buried in Tyer Cemetery in Cherry Valley, Cross county, Arkansas next to Grace. Mr Cooper is buried on the other side of Grace.

Sadly, there was no grave marker for Leonard from 1950 until 2008 when his granddaughter placed a stone on his almost forgotten grave.
