Leonard Calvert left East Tennessee (probably Washington Co.), about 1821, going to Missouri, where he settled at "Old Franklin" (in what is now Howard County) opposite where Booneville now stands. There they lived for two years in a stockade fort until the Indians were removed from that section. Then Leonard settled on a homestead ten miles east of Booneville, near Big Lick, a famous deer-lick. A Baptist Church and Cemetery are now there, known as Big Lick.
