Leon John Myrup

Born at Gunnison, Sanpete Co, Utah, Jan 8, 1906 to Adolph Marius Myrup and Lillian Geraldine Larson. There were 3 boys and four girls in the family as follows, Velma Lillian, Adrian Leroy, Leon John, Lars Jerome, Alice Anna, Lucille May, Edna Mary. The first child, a boy named Adolph died 3 days after birth. He was born 7 April 1900, died 11, April, 1900.

Leon attended school at Lost River Ranch. This was a one room school house. This ranch was 27 miles from Howe Idaho and about 40 miles from Arco Idao. Attended school 2 years at Arco my family moved to Salt Lake City. First home was at 526 North Pugsley Street. We went to the Washington School located at 1st West and 4th North. Parents bought a house at 627 So. 9th East and we went to school at the Hamilton and the Bryant Jr. High School. Our father bought a ranch in the foot hills of Bountiful Utah. It was next to Mueller Park. I finished my education at Bountiful Utah. The years spent on the Little Lost River Ranch were very happy years. After father bought ranches on Hill Creek, in Eastern Utah, I spent my summer working with him. It also was a good time. He owned much land, sheep and cattle.

I married Mamie Elizabeth Clark 27 March, 1928. We spent 6 years on my father’s Ranch in Southern Utah. It was the East Boulder Ranch located on the last slope of the Boulder mountains. To reach this ranch one must travel through some of the most beautiful country in the west called “The Wayne Wonderland.” At that time we had to go through the “Capitol Gorge” o reach the ranch. This gorge has since been closed off and a road built alongside the Freemont River. At certain times of the year, it would take us 12 hours to travel about 45 miles to the nearest town which was Torrey , Utah. Our oldest son Richard went to school at Teasdale, Utah for 2 yrs. My wife lived there in the inter while he went to School. We have had 4 children. Richard Clark, Donald Lee, Jerrold Jay and Marilyn. Our sons were born while we lived at this ranch.

In the spring of 1935 we lived in Salt Lake City for a short time and our daughter Marilyn was born there When she was 6 weeks old we moved to Provo, City, Utah. We rented a house at 187 E. 7th North. After 2 years in this house I bought a home at 158 So. 2nd East, Provo. We lived here for 19 years. [insert on side of page:] (I worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for a short time building the Deer Creek Dam. After I worked at the Cherry Hill Dairy for 6 years. Then went to work for U.S. Steel at the Ironton Plant). It was a happy and rewarding time. Life was hard sometimes but we managed well. We lived through the great depression of the 30's and World War II here. Our son Richard left this home to fight in the war. He returned and all of our sons were married while we resided here. In 1956 we bought a lovely new house in Grandview Area at 1796 North 1350 West. It was in the Provo 17th ward. We enjoyed our 5 years here. I enjoyed working on the new church house being built at that time and we served on the finance Committee in the ward. When we lived at 158 So. 2 East I was made a High Priest, having received my other priesthoods in the Manavee? Ward. Our daughter Marilyn was married while we lived in this home at 1769 N. 1350 West to Melvin Joseph Merrell.

In January 1962 the Ironton Steel Plant shut down for good. I had worked here for 20 years. The U.S. Steel Co. Had started an Iron Ore Mine at Lander, Wyo. I had an opportunity to go up there to work. We moved there in May of 1962. Bought a home at 385 Del St. In Aug 1962. We are living here at the present time. Hope to move back to Utah when I retire.
