In Brookfield, N. Y., Feb. 15, 1881, of organic disease of the heart, Leander Babcock, aged 68 years and 1 day. Brother Babcock made profession of religion in 1837, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Second Seventh-day Baptist Church on the 9th of December of that year. He lived and enjoyed the hope of the gospel, and that same gospel hope and faith sustained him in his sickness and death. For him "to die was gain."
Funeral services were held on the 17th, at the family residence, conducted by the pastor, and the lifeless form, now free from pain, was laid to rest in the mother earth, to await the resurrection of the just. Bro. Babcock's family consists of his wife and five children, all of whom, with one exception (Mrs. Jacob Williams, of Harvard, Neb.) were present at the funeral. The day was a very stormy one, but large numbers of neighbors and friends were present to sympathize with the stricken family in their bereavement. "The memory of the just is blessed." J. M. T.
