In Brookfield, N. Y., November 28, 1862, very suddenly, of organic disease of the heart, Mr. Hezekiah Babcock, in the 79th year of his age. Bro. Babcock professed faith in Christ many years ago – a faith that manifested itself in conforming its possessor to the divine will. He embraced the Sabbath and united with the 2d Seventh-day Baptist Church of Brookfield, as one of the early fruits of Eld. E. S. Bailey’s ministry. Our departed brother was a living consistent Christian. His death was sudden, yet we doubt not it found him prepared. He leaves a numerous family of children and grandchildren, yet they are comforted with the hope that their loss is his eternal gain. In his death the church has sustained the loss of one of its firm supporters – one of its brightest ornaments. We doubt not the Master has given him an abundant entrance into the “general assembly and church of the first-born.” His funeral was numerously attended, and after appropriate religious services, his remains were committed to their last resting place.
