1860 Census dist n/g, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina Leah Blakeney 60 F SC Sarah Blakeney 85 F SC

In 1870 Leah is living with another dauther Frances and the whole family is mis-indexed as Melter; should be Miller. 1870 Census Old Store, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina Miller, Francis 51 F W Farmer 1000 100 SC (note gender; this was Leah's dau, Frances Shehorn Blakeney, widow of James Madison Miller) Miller Susan 29 F W Keeping House SC Miller, Charlotte 25 F W SC Miller, Jane 16 F W SC (out of order) Miller, James 21 M W SC Miller, Stephen 19 M W SC Miller, John 14 M W SC Miller, Willm 12 M W SC Miller, Olive S 5 F W SC Blakeney, L. 71 F W SC (Leah) (is mis-indexed as Blakener L. I read the image as Leah, age 87; the indexer has Laer, age 84. The 1850 & 1860 indicate birth abt 1800.) Stack, John B M 12 svt single Farm Laborer SC blank blank Parker, Thos. B M 21 svt single Farm Laborer SC SC SC

If I have read this census correctly (and I think I have), it does say that Laer/Leah is Travis Evans' mother-in-law. This will mean that records saying Leah died in 1875 are incorrect, even as to the inscriptions on the gravestone. The history of the cemetery and the markers indicate that many were placed there well after the burial by descendants wanting to honor their heritage. Another d/o/d error is noted on the record of Capt. John Blakeney; determined by someone else's research. Both of these errors are now perpetuated in stone. Dates from photo inscription; but d/o/d appears to be in error as Leah is on the 1880 census, aged 87.
