At his death in August 1643 Rev. Lazare Bayard is recorded as the Pastor of the Church at Breda from October 1606 until 1625 at which time the city was seized by the Spaniards. Lazare from that time on led an unsettled life. In 1629 he returned to Breda and joined the Prince of Orange in driving the conquerors from town.
