Lawrence Henry HARTwas born Lawrence Henry GREEN on 19 June 1870 at Rockhampton. He was the younger of twin boys. His brother was Robert Francis. Their mother was Ann Norah GATES. The twins are registered as father unknown. Ann Norah GATES married Henry HART 6 weeks after the boys were born, so it's assumed that their father was Henry. Mr Edward GREEN who was Ann's 1st husband died??

From the time Ann & Henry married the boys took the name of HART. Lawrence continued to live in Rockhampton in George St. At 26yrs old, he married Annie WEINHOLT. She died after 3 months of marriage. There were no children.

In 1900 he turned up in Sydney where it appears he met Amelia LUDKIN, who at that time was married to Robert George PORTER. In the 1901 electrol roll Lawrence was listed as being a fruit Agent and living in George St. It is not known where he was in 1902-1904. On 10 May 1905 Mercia Ruby was born and given the surname of HART. At this time they were living together at 35 Foveaux Street Sydney. Lawrence's occupation then was a photographer. He was still living there in 1906. Stella Victoria was born 24 May 1907 at 367 Rathdowne St Melbourne where Lawrence was now a traveller. In Rockhampton on 30 December 1913 Thelma Rose was born with Lawrence named as the father. It is known that he was at this time in Queensland as he was the informant on Thelma's birth certificate.

It appears there must have been some rift as next we can find of him is that in 1919 he married Marion NASON. On 01 December 1924 at the age of 54 at "Uralla" 700 Dandenong Rd Murrumbeena, Lawrence died of Cancer of the Pancreas and exhaustion and was buried in Brighton General Cemetery.

A postscript to this biography is that buried in the same plot as Lawrence is a Robert Baker GWYNN. The reason for this is yet unknown although permission was given by Mrs Marion HART who had by that time remarried.

The following is the inscription on his gravestone: In loving memory of L.H.Hart / who died 01-12-1924 / and / R.B.Gwynn / 24th Batt Late A.I.F. / died 13-08-1935.

Some family memories have it that Lawrence was a hard man, well known to like a drink and it also appears that he may have been a man that liked to hit women.
