Facts and Events
LaVere Braucht was a popular and well-known florist, whose shop was located on the street front main floor of the DM, IA. Equitable Insurance Co. Bldg. He was a respected parade horseman (see photo of him on Drum Major, national parade champion horse) and gave to me (Loran Braught) in the 60's the brother to Drum Major when I was living at SE Polk Co. He and I spent considerable time together in that decade. LaVere SSI=485-36-3820. LaVere's son, Ted, was at one time a medical patient of Dr. Ralph Braught (I think at Rockford, IL.). I thought that Ted may have been his only child. Memory recalls that LaVere's wife's name was Ruth, but I don't know her maiden surname. I did not spend nearly as much time with her as I did with him (she was not all that interested in our mutual horseing around). LaVere was also certain that we were of the same family despite the small difference in our surname spellings. At that time I did not follow up on data that he said he had on family history and I have not yet located family who may have gotten his collection. U.S. Census 1920 Iowa Polk Co., Des Moines, 4th Pct. show Braucht, Lavere, age 29, b. Iowa, florist, and Ruth, age 19, b. IA living at 732-18th St. (from Freie Nov. 2001). |
