Oswell Ellison's notes from "An Ellison Family of Virginia" say that Lawrence Ellison was the first Ellison in the new country, but they don't list when Lawrence Ellison came to New Jersey. They also note that Lawrence received various land allotments in Hempstead which may explain why his son Thomas Ellison, Sr. was a "substantial landowner."

Note: This does not correspond with pdeeds007@aol.com research in that his indicates that the next generation, i.e. Thomas Ellison, Sr., was the immigrant.
