Facts and Events
Went to the United States in 1853.
Lars (Lewis?) Johnson: b. 28 Aug. 1833 on the island of Rennesøy, Rogaland County, Norway, d. 1919, emigrated to America in 1853. He married Anna Pederson, (b. 1 Jan. 1842, d. 5 April 1936) a daughter of Andrew and Marie Pederson. Martha, his mother, made her home with Lars. He purchased a homestead and moved his family to Montevideo, Minn. in 1902 after having farmed on what is now known as the Malland farm near Highland, Minn. for several years. (Probably the Martin A. Maland farm about 2 miles southwest of the Highland Prairie Church in Norway township rather than Highland.) Ed Tomte remembered the family. It is believed that his descendents, if any, live in the Lake Mills and Forest City, Iowa area as well as around Montevideo where Martha is buried. (There may have been something scandalous about Lars because the old ladies did not want to talk about him. It could have been simply that they thought that he drank too much[Larson.FTW]
