9/30/1965: 

 Larry Edward Owens, 19, of Monroe, Michigan, was killed Thursday night Sept. 23 when his car went out of control at Harrogate and ran off US Hwy 25-E.  State trooper Robert Finchum said the automobile went over an embankment and overturned about 11 miles northeast of Tazewell.
  David Howard Claiborne, 18, Rt 3, Speedwell, who was riding with Owens escaped injury.  Owens lost control of his car on a steep, rain soaked curve just south of Lincoln Memorial University on US 25-E.  Trooper Finchum said the car traveled approximately 200 feet ater it had let the highway.  Owens, who formerly lived at Speedwell was pronounced dead on arrival at a Middlesboro, Ky, hospital.  He was employed as an assembly worker in Detroit, Michigan.
