Larkin McElhinney Porter (13 October 1846 (Russell County, Virginia) - 20 February 1922 (Stephens, Elliott County, Kentucky) Larkin was known by all in the rural communities of Elliott County, Kentucky as "Mack" (a nickname derived from his middle name). Larkin served with Company G, 39th Kentucky Infantry, on the Union Army during the Civil War. The 39th and 40th Kentucky Infantries served strictly in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, southwest Virginia and east Tennessee. In many cases they were fighting their friends, family and neighbors. After the Civil War was over he drew a pension. He ran a store at his home in Stephens, Elliott County, bought and sold real estate, loaned money and held the notes when property was used as surety. He was a trusted figure in Elliott County |
