PITTSFORD, Vt. Oct. 8--Karen V. McDevitt, 63, of Utica, N.Y., a former Pittsford, Vt.resident, died today. Born in South Dorset, Vt., Dec. 17, 1889, he was the son of Patrick and Sarah (McLaughlin) McDevitt. He is survived by his wife, the former Katherine Hoffman ; two sons, Robert of Whitesboro, N.Y. and George of Rochester, N.Y.; a twin brother, Mathew of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Philip Howe of Keene, N.H., and Mrs. A. J. Wimett of Pittsford, V.; and three grandchildren. Services will be held in Utica, N.Y. Monday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Utica.

Keren V. McDevitt, 63, retired Utica policeman, fell to his death at the bottom of an elevator shaft yesterday afternoon in the plant of the Mele Manufacturing Co. in Whitesboro. Employed as an operator, McDevitt apparently slipped through the clearance space between the floor of the freight elevator and the side of the shaft, falling about 50 feet. McDevitt retired from the Police Dept. Aug. 18, 1951, after more than 27 years of service.
