Kenneth R. Thurston, 81, of 130 N. Buffalo St., Elkland, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at home. Born June 19, 1919, in Elkland, he was the son of Fred M. and Floy Webster Thurston. He was a retired machinist at Ingersol-Rand, Painted Post, N.Y.; and former employee of the Elkland Leather Company. He was a member of the Elkland United Methodist Church and a life member of the Knoxville VFW. Surviving are his wife, Lauretta; one brother, Clark Thurston of Elkland; six nephews and their wives, Albert M. and Lorraine Thurston of Painted Post, Alfred W. and Lorraine Thurston of Elkland, Terry and Kay Thurston of Brockport, N.Y., James C. and Deborah Backes of Fort Meyers, Fla., Joseph M. and Dawn Backes of Endicott, N.Y., and Timothy Backes of Endicott, N.Y.: three nieces and husband, Sue A. Backes of Vestal, N.Y., Winifred King of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Lori Jo and Glenn Simpson of Savona, N.Y. Calling hours were held Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland. Funeral services were held there Saturday, Nov. 18, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Burial was made at Highland Cemetery, Elkland. Memorial donations may be made to the Elkland United Methodist Church or the Valley Community Ambulance Association.
