    Katherine S. "Kate" Beal, 85, Meyersdale, died June 30, 2008, at her home.
    Born Jan. 3, 1923, in West Haven, Conn., a daughter of the late Alexander J.
    and Mary (Lange ) Stephens . Also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard M.
    Beal, March 10, 1963; and these brothers and sisters, Paul A. Stephens,
    Alexander Stephens, Lillian Shumaker, Mabel Hornbake and Gloria Ritchey.
    Survived by her son Bernard M. "Bernie" Beal and his wife, Carol A.,
    Meyersdale; granddaughter, Julie A. (Beal), wife of James M. Kretchman; and
    three great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine "Katie", Lauren Elizabeth and James
    Logan "Jimmy". Kate will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and special
    friends. She was always available when someone needed her. She retired from
    Meyersdale Manufacturing Co. as a supervisor, with 35 years of service. A
    volunteer at Meyersdale Medical Center, where she surpassed 12,000 hours of
    service and she will be greatly missed at the front desk. A member of the
    Amity United Church of Christ, where she served many years on the consistory,
    a member of the choir, and she enjoyed helping with the church meals. Kate had
    18 years of service with the Meyersdale Salvation Army Service Unit, was a
    driver for RSVP with the Department of Aging, served on the board and was a
    policy council member for Head Start at Tableland. A member of the Meyersdale
    Hospital Auxiliary. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at
    the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted 11 a.m.
    Saturday. Family friend, Cliff Miller officiating. Interment Reformed
    Cemetery, Meyersdale. Arrangements by the William Rowe Price Funeral Home,
    Inc., Meyersdale.
