According to the entry in the baptism register (1882), John PEVERETT does not appear to have been her father. 1881 - Recorded in household of Elizabeth WOMACK as her niece, though she was, in fact, her granddaughter. Birthplace is recorded as Hopton, Suffolk. 1882 - Baptism: Kate, daughter of Isabella WOMACK, now PEVERETT [transcribed at FreeREG as PRENTICE]. Joint baptism with her half-brother. 1891 - Employed as a general domestic servant in household of spinster Mary Button in Hopton, Suffolk. Birthplace recorded as South Lopham. 1901 - Kate is a parlour maid in Paddington, London. 1929 - Died, aged 56 at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, after a short illness. Lived at Ashes Farm, North Lopham. Coffin inscribed "Kate Pratt, Died November, 13th 1929, Aged 56 years, At Rest". The coffin was carried by four local men, three of whom worked on the farm (Diss Express). Buried alone at South Lopham but near to her mother (Isabella Baker). Her memorial inscription, as recorded by the Women's Institute survey, records the date of death as 13 November. |
