Mrs. Kate E. Ettinger
Mother of Allentown Housing Head Was Resident Here 35 Years
Mrs. Kate E. Ettinger, widow of the late William E. Ettinger and mother of Charles W. Ettinger, local publisher and chairman of the Allentown Housing Authority, died Thursday night at her home at 315 Chew St., Allentown, where she had resided for the past 35 years. She was in her 87th year.
The daughter of Ephriam [sic] and Kate, nee Smith, Swoyer, Mrs. Ettinger was born on March 25, 1853 at Albany, Berks county, from where the family moved to Lynnville, Lehigh county, while she was at an early age. Thirty-nine years ago the family moved to Allentown.
The last of 13 children, all of whom lived to maturity, Mrs. Ettinger had been in ill health since Feb. 12, when she was stricken while attending services at St. Michael's Lutheran church, of which she had long been a member.
Mrs. Ettinger's husband died 30 years ago, and one daughter, Clara J., also preceded her in death.
Two children survive her: Charles W. Ettinger, 918 Gordon St, city and Dorothy E, wife of Robert O. Bentley, Neward, NJ. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Robert K. Ettinger, city; William E Bentley, Long Beach, Long Island; and Attorney Robert O. Bentley Jr., Hackensack, NJ.
Funeral services will be held from her late home on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with interment following in the Lynnville church cemetery.
