Karl Farnlacher apprenticed as a gold plater (Dekorationsmaler) in his father's shop; then he became a furniture refinisher at a furniture house in Storz. Later, he became a painter.

Karl's mother did not permit that he marry Anna. Not until Karl fell seriously ill did he get permission. His father George urged that the marriage take place. Karl wore a goatee beard (same as King Ludwig II). -- from Richard Farnlacher and Margarete Budjan, November 24, 1985.
