She was engaged to a Mr Halliday but after great demands from her mother, John Delap Halliday wed a Tollemache. Sophia sued the Hallidays in the US via her husband who had been appointed Governor of Newfoundland in 1769 - it was settled out of court.Julia ran away with her cousin William Byron. 4 years after they married WByron died at the age of 26 cheating her of the inheritance of Baroness Byron and Newstead.Her new husband was the wealthy Sir Robert Wilmot of Osmaston in Derbyshire.Julia herself did not live long enough to enjoy the grandeur of her new position and died at the age of 34 in 1788.
