Although Julia is identified as the daughter of J. N. Van Camp in the 1880 census[1], she was likely either adopted or simply living with the family. She is neither mentioned in the will of Nelson Van Camp (written 6 days after the 1880 census was recorded)[3] nor in the 1870 census with this family.

She may be the Julia Vancamp, age 1, in the household of Franklin and Leah Vancamp of Wetzel, West Virginia in the 1870 census.[2] Franklin died in 1873, and it is possible that his daughter went to live with her father's cousin after that.
