There passed away at her residence, Gawler street, on Saturday afternoon last, another o;f that illustrious, but fast-diminishing band of pioneers, in the person of Mrs J T Sutton, widow of the late Mr Francis Sutton. The deceased lady, who had reached the ripe old age of 85, had been confined to her bed for the last five weeks, and gradually the fraility caused by advanced years became more pronounced, until she passed peacefully away in her sleep, her spirit never failing her until the very last. She was a true type of a fine old English lady, and had a most charming manner which endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. Charitably disposed, she was ever ready to assist anyone in distress, and her deeds of kindness were innumerable. Born in Tipperary (Ireland), she came to Australia at the age of six, and after being in the Strathdownie district for some years, in the year 1874 married the late Mr Francis Sutton, who was a well known identity in the early days of settlement of that part. Of the marriage ther was a family of six daughters and two sons, to whom the deepest sympathy is extended in their great loss. At the time of death six of the family were at their mother's bedside, and during her period of illness the ministrations of her daughters were a wonderful example of filiar love. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the large and representative attendance present bearing eloquent testimony to the esteem in which the late lady was held. Rev Canon Coupe, conducted the services at the house and graveside, while Mr T. C. Jarrett carried out the mortuary arrangements
