    36. JUDAH FOULKE (CADWALLADER , EDWARD) was born September 30, 1722 in Gwynedd MM, Pennsylvania, and died in Philadelphia, PA. He married MARY BRINGHURST February 16, 1743/44 in Philadelphia , Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. She was born 1721 and died January 22, 1798 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of John Bringhurst and Mary Claypoole.

H.M. Jenkins: Judah was a prominent and active citizen; that he loved letters, the well-cherished and well-used volumes of classics which were owned by him attest. From 1745-1750, Collector of Exise for Philadelphia. In 1770-1772, he was Sheriff of the city and county of Philadelphia. A quaint document, dated December 11, 1773, recites that His Excellency John Penn, "with the advice of the Council, consitutes and appoints Judah Foulke, gentleman, Keeper of the Standards of Brass for weights and measurements for the county of Philadelphia." His will, written 1774, makes his wife sole legatee, "in full confidence of her maternal affection for our children," and appoints his brother-in-law Joseph Bringhurst, and his friends Abel James and Joseph Fox, executors. His dwelling was No. 34 Front St. North, Philadelphia where died his widow, Jan. 22, 1798, aged nearly 77 years."

According to Howard Jenkins, Judah Foulke died 24 Jan. 1776, but this is in conflict with the will abstract of Peter Turner Jr, who appears to have wrote his will in May of 1776 and named Judah Foulke executor. He was a signer of the non-Importation agreement of 1765 (opposed the Stamp Tax) and on 25 March, 1775, was chosen by Congress one of the signers of the one million dollars of Continental bills ordered to be issued at that time.

Her house was the loved resort of persons of both sexes and all ages, to whom she adapted her conversation with remarkable facility. By the Society of Friends in this city, her loss will long be felt; she was an active minister of the Gospel…...The Prison, the Public Alms House, and the Asylum for Widows, all engaged her attention, and in each of them her voice was raised in endeavors to reclaim the wanderer and comfort the afflicted."
