Jotham moved with his family from Oyster Bay to Rye, New York in 1747. He purchased a house and land on Harrison's Purchase Road. This property, with other lands, he sold in 1763 and purchased property where by 1771, he kept a stage house which he kept until near the end of the Revolution. Because of the occupation of the British, Jotham, along with many others moved into the city.
