Facts and Events
Josias Marshall was baptised on 21st February 1717 at Kimpton in Hertfordshire, son of Josias or Joseph Marshall and his wife Sarah. Shortly after Josias' birth the family moved to East Hyde in the neighbouring parish of Luton, where they had several more children through the 1720s and early 1730s. Josias appears to have married an Elizabeth, with whom he had two children; Elizabeth baptised in 1754 in Harpenden and Joseph baptised in 1757 in Luton. Young Joseph's baptism gives the family's abode as Ashwellbridge, which is at East Hyde and very close to the border between Luton, Harpenden and Wheathampstead parishes. Josias' wife Elizabeth appears to have died either giving birth to young Joseph or shortly afterwards; she was buried the day before Joseph's baptism. The baby did not long survive his mother, being buried four days later. Josias married again on 18th September 1759. His second wife was an Elizabeth Farr, and they married in Luton. They were married for just under five years. Elizabeth was buried at Luton on 5th June 1764. Her burial record terms her 'wife' rather than widow, suggesting Josias was still alive. However, he has yet to be traced further after 1764. References
