    "He was one of the first settlers of Lunenburg; a captain in frontier service against the Indian enemy; became a colonel and was commander of Fort Dummer (at Brattleboro, Vt.) Distinguished himself in strong protection of the exposed settlements; was described as 'faithful, vigilant, careful'. He was an original Proprietor in 'the township on the East side of Connecticut River above Northfield, commonly called Arlington', and sold a tract there May 31, 1735."
