JOSIAH settled northwest of Urbana, Indiana (one half mile north, and one half mile west). He was a part of the farming community which surrounded the early "GAMBLE SETTLEMENT". These families were very inter-married. Besides Richards and Dunfee, the nearby related families included: Amber, Gamble, Jack, Joy, McCoy, Merrick, Signs, Vanduyne, Way, and many others.
Josiah was known as one of the foremost horse breeders in Wabash County.
