Josiah drowned with his father-in-law, Benjamin Brown, when Benjamin's schooner Hawk, carrying a cargo of apples from Annapolis (Digby County, NS) to Yarmouth, was driven from its anchor in Yarmouth Sound and wrecked at Hilton's Point, Yarmouth.
