  2.   Josiah spells his surname with a D. His father Josiah does not. He was of Scottish descent. this fact is documented in the Deerfield, Massachusetts Vital Records to year 1850. Josiah is mentioned a number of times in the History of Heath & Charlemont, Ma. in the "History of the Connecticut Valley in Massachusetts, Vol II" by Louis H. Everts, 1879. Josiah was considered a pioneer settler, was in Charlement during the Indian Wars including the massacares of 1746 & 1755, and was one of thirty families who petitioned the Act of Incorporation which the Village was granted on 21 June 1765, just 5 days before his marriage, on the 26 June 1765. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Heath. He was still listed on the tax rolls of 1774.
