Confusing Tombstone, yet it can only be this man
Interestingly, the Josiah Barber tombstone in Palisado Cemetery appears to be the source, in some accounts, of Josiah Barber as having died on 14 or 24 Dec, 1733. The Findagrave memorial showing recent photos of it shows 14 Dec 1733, "in the 76th year of his age". But this Josiah Barber had a will dated 1 Apr 1726, which was probated on 7 Jan 1729/30, so he could not have died in 1733. Could it refer to his son Josiah Barber? Josiah Barber's son Josiah was born in 1685 (no month or day given in the vital records), and is not mentioned in his father's 1726 will, so he probably died before that date. Additionally, it seems unlikely that they would confuse a man who would have been approximately 48 in 1733 for 76. There were also no other Josiah Barbers in this era who would fit. Finally, although age 76 does not match Josiah Barber Sr.'s age if he were to have died in 1733, it does fit if he had indeed died in 1729, as both the Windsor vital records and the Hartford probate records show. Perhaps the 1733 date is actually the date the tombstone was put in the ground, and is simply an error on the part of whoever carved it.
