    JOSHUA Ripley, Hingham, son of the preceding JOHN Ripley, married 28 November 1682, Hannah, daughter of Deputy Governor William Bradford. Joshua was the leader of a petition which led to the formation of the ywon of Windham, Connecticut... The Petition of the Windham Planters for a Town. (From the original), in "Towns and Lands," Vol. I, Doc. 234, Colonial records. To the honoured general court now sitting in Hartford the request of your humble peticioners is as followeth: Wee whose names* (*The names subscribed are all in the same handwriting, and not original signatures. The whole was written by Joshua Ripley, the first town clerk or recorder.) air hereunto subscribed with severall others air proprietters of that track of land given by Joshua a sachem deseaced unto severall gentlemen of Norwich. We doe humblely pray your honours that you would grant us a township and call it Windom and that our town brand may be: &: and yt your honours would pleas to grant us thr same same privilidg as to other new plantations in respect of forbearing us of our county rats a while and vt this honoured court would enable us to levi our towne rats upon the lands of such persons as air unwilling to bear their share of charg: this being granted will greatly oblige us to pray, Wee remain yours in all duty bound.
