BIOGRAPHY: Historical Outline of the Ransom Family of America and Genealogical Record of the Colchester, Conn., Branch By Wyllys C. Ransom, A.M. Ann Arbor, Mich. Press of Ann Arbor Plant The Richmond & Backus Company 1903 Pages 451 Pages 70 - 71 No. 2. Joshua Ransom (Robert), b. about 1665, Sandwich, Mass.; m. 1st Mary Gifford, daughter of John and Elishua Gifford, at Sandwich, Feb. 21, 1686; d. Oct. 25, 1689; m. 2nd Susanna Garner at Plymouth, Mass., March 10, 1692; she died at Halifax, Mass., March 10, 1735; date and place of Joshua's death uncertain; he was living at the old homestead in Plympton, December 3rd, 1713. The record of Joshua's life and career is obscure and involved in much uncertainty. It is obvious from a close review of the Plymouth records that he was a man active in affairs, having numerous land deals, indicating that he was a general trader and property man. After his second marriage his relations to his children seem to have been mainly restricted to John, the son, by his wife Susanna, and gave him the home at Plympton previous to his death. It seems quite likely that Robert and Mary, the children by Mary Gifford, remained in Rhode Island after their mothers's death in their uncle's (Yelverton-Gifford) family, where they were reared. |
