"(III) Joshua, ninth child and sixth son of William (2) and Abigail Hopkins Merrick, was born about 1680, and died in 1740, aged about sixty. He married, in 1716, Lydia Mayo, daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Knowles) Mayo. She was descended as follows: Patience Brewster, daughter of Elder Brewster, of the "Mayflower," married Governor Prence; their daughter, Hannah Prence married Nathaniel Mayo, son of Rev. John Mayo; Thomas, their son, married Barbara Knowles, and had a daughter, Lydia Mayo, wife of Joshua Merrick. The nine children of Joshua and Lydia were: Thomas, Seth, Jospeph, Abigail, Lydia, Barnabas, Hannah, Mary and Bezaled."
