[Edwards.GED] WILL OF JOSHUA EDWARDS In the name of God Amen. I Joshua Edwards Senior of the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina, being in a perfect state Health and of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is allotted for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament (Viz) principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the follow manner Viz. Item: I give and bequeath to my sons, James Edwards, John (Edwards), Jacob Edwards, Joshua Edwards, and my Daughter Issable Barker the sum of Twenty Schillings Each to them and their Heirs forever, I loan to my dearly Beloved Wife Rebecka Edwards, the one third part of the land whereon I now Live Including the Buildings thereon, two beds and firniture one horse the choice of the Stock one chest the dresser in the House and the furniture it generally contains on Saddle Two Cows he choice of the Stock for her own and benefit as long as she continues my widow and at her Death to go to my son Nathan Edwards all my lands containing all my stock, crop, Household firnature and plantation tools, debts by accounts, and all notes due me and every other thing that belongs to me that hath not been mentioned after paying all my just debts and Satisfying and paying the aforesaid Legacies to his Heirs and assigns forever. I hereby constitute and appoint my son Nathan Edwards whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all other former wills, Testaments, Legacies, bequests and Executors by me in anywise before named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this an no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Joshua Edwards Senr. have hereunto Set my hand and seal this 13th day of January 1810 the words (John Edwards) interlined befor assigned. Signed Seald and Pronounced in presence of /s/ Thomas Ragland /s/ Wm Ragland (Jurat)/s/ Joshua Edwards Snr Seal WILL: State of North Carolina August Session 1824 Chatham County (This was?) duly exhibited in Open Court and proved by the Oath of William Ragland a Subscribing witness and ordered to be Recorded whereupon Nathan Edwards the Executor therein named appeared and was qualified _______ (illegible) Test /s/ Thos Ragland CCC - A similar entry appears in the Chatham County Court Records dated Tuesday August Sessions 1824. It states: "The last Will and Testament of Joshua Edwards Snr. Recceived (? illegible) was exhibited in (? illegible) Court and proved by the oath of William nRagland a subscribing witness thereto and was ordered to be recorded - whereupon Nathan Edwards the Executor therein named came into Court and was duly qualified and letters Testamentary were issued accordingly." |
