BIOGRAPHY: Neville Gammon "Jo" (Nesbit) Stinchfield 1922 - 2005

OBITUARY of NEVILLE JO NESBIT GAMMON STINCHFIELD Jo Gammon Stinchfield of Irving passed away Friday, January 28, 2005 in Irving, Texas at the Northgate Plaza Nursing Home from Oat Cell Cancer in the brain, lung, liver and bones. Jo was born May 8, 1922 in Marshall, Arkansas, to Guice Wesley Nesbit and Dorothy Pearl Aday Nesbit. Raised by her maternal grandmother, Josie Elizabeth Aday, she graduated from Marshall High School in 1939. She attended A & M University in Magnolia, Arkansas and in February 1965 graduated from Sue's School of Hair Design. In Irving, she bought Hair Masters Beauty Salon where she combined interests in makeup and hair styles for almost twenty years. She was from a political family having lived with her aunt, Ruth Colay and uncle, Harry B. Colay, who was the Senior House of Representative from Magnolia, Arkansas for over 10 years. Her Uncle, Dr. L.C. Aday was the County Coroner in Houston, Texas, formerly from Marshall, Arkansas. Jo used many talents in the Air Force Officers Wives Clubs during the years she was married to her first husband, Lt. Col. Stephen Ross Gammon. At Lockbourne Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio she was in the Hammets, a group who did tap to Parisian kick dancing. She was Vice-President of the Forbes Air Force Base Women's Club in Topeka, Kansas and acted, danced, sang, bowled, golfed and modeled. In Topeka, she was her daughters Girl Scout Leader and took the troop to the Capitol as guests of Governor George Docking. She completed the American National Red Cross program called the Gray Ladies, volunteering at the hospital in helping patients, doctors and nurses. She received a special award at Kincheloe Air Force Base, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for volunteering over 5,000 hours. The Officer's Wives Club raised $6,000.00 dollars for a new Youth Center on base. She took stained glass classes and created beautiful pieces sold at the Irving Senior Center. Jo was also the "Queen of the Garage Sales." Husband of 16 years, Melvin Joshua "Mike" Stinchfield passed away on January 29, 2003. Jo is survived by father of their children, Stephen Ross Gammon, Lindale, Texas. Their children are Stephen Patrick Gammon and wife Marguerite, grandchildren: Christopher Michael Gammon, Richard Ross Gammon, Cheryl Kay and Victoria Ann Gammon, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; great grandchild, Hillary Rose Gammon. Daughter, Glenda Gail Gammon Persinger and husband, Tom Persinger, Roanoke, Texas and grandchildren: Stephanie Strunc Reese, a former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and her husband, Alan Reese, Ennis, Texas and Glenn Strunc and wife Melissa and great grandsons Jacob Aaron and twins Owen Scott and Collin Glenn, Baltimore, Maryland. Cousins, Mable Jo Colay Ray and husband Rev. Herb Ray, Springdale, Arkansas, Helen Sherman, Houston, Benny Joe Aday of Portales, NM, Betty Jean Kristoffersen, Donna Laney and Doris Magee all of Houston. Daughter-in-law by marriage Cathy Stinchfield, two granddaughters Alison and Jackie and one great grandson, Avery of Dublin, Ohio. Two sisters-in-law, Joan White of Alexandria, Virginia and Janet Johnson of Marietta, Georgia. Special thank you to Mamie Morgan, Pat Morgan, Donna Belknap and others who helped Jo. Family and friends visitation, will be at 600 W. Dover, Irving, 7:00 to 9:00 pm Friday, February 4th. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 5th, 10:00 am at Oak View Baptist Church, 1004 S. Story Rd. in Irving for family and friends. Lunch will be served after the service at the church.
