Article from Kingston Daily Freeman, August 27, 1949 (accompanied by picture of Mrs. Hoar) Mrs. Hoar Observes 94th Birthday Mrs. Josephine Hoar, who lives with her daughter Miss Jenny Hoar at Alligerville, celebrated her 94th birthday Wednesday with a family party. A firm believer in the idea that everybody should be able to help themselves, Mrs. Hoar does her own baking and makes all of her own clothes. One of her hobbies is making knitted rugs. She has an excellent memory and recalls the Civil War, World War 1 and 2. At the age of 12 she was bitten by a copper head and remembers the treatment with roots and herbs. Mrs. Hoar lives in a house nearly 200 years old. She is a member of the Reformed Church at Alligerville. She is the former Josephine Harp and became the bride of Simon Hoar in 1875 at a wedding in St James Methodist Church in this city. Her husband was a carpenter. She has two children, Edwin and Jenny; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. |
